Competition – Divisions – Brazilian Zouk World Championships

Read the competition rules here>

Pro - Original

The Originals division is the signature professional couples choreography competition of the Brazilian Zouk World Championships. Dancers in this division present a fully choreographed routine that highlights the essence of Brazilian Zouk, with at least 80% of the routine consisting of recognizable Zouk fundamentals. Judges evaluate timing, technique, body movement, creativity, connection, musical interpretation, and overall performance. Movements such as counterbalances, head movements, spins, and other technical skills are expected to be executed with control and precision.

This division is intended for high-level competitors and professional dancers who want to showcase both their artistic expression and deep understanding of the Zouk vocabulary. Lifts (when 2 feet leave the floor and their weight is supported) and props are NOT allowed.

Pro - Showtime

While competitors must still demonstrate solid Zouk fundamentals, the focus here is on the “wow factor” — bold choreography, emotional expression, and staging elements that captivate audiences.

This division allows professional dancers to push the boundaries of performance, (as long as 60% or more remains Brazilian Zouk). Lifts are compulsory.

Like all divisions, props are not allowed, and footwear is required. Showtime is the perfect space for dancers who want to entertain and inspire through artistry and character-driven performance.
